SavanaNut entered the Senegalese market with a downstream vision: to process groundnuts into high-quality oil and peanut butter for consumers and value-added markets. But as we studied the sector more closely and engaged with the realities of supply, quality, and consistency, we discovered that the core constraint was not processing capacity - it was seed quality.
We found that many farmers were still relying on recycled, low-vigor groundnut seed, creating weak germination, inconsistent yields, lower oil content, smaller kernels, and unstable supply for processors. This seed problem directly affected the quality of raw material available for oil extraction, peanut butter production, confectionery-grade products, and export-oriented processing.
After investigating the problem and closely monitoring Senegal’s fluctuating performance in the groundnut sector, SavanaNut made a strategic shift: rather than starting at the end of the value chain, we decided to address the bottleneck at the source. We moved from a processing-first concept to a certified seed-first platform designed to strengthen the entire groundnut economy from the seed level upward.
This shift defines who we are today. SavanaNut is not just a seed producer; we are building the foundation for better processing, better farmer income, better nutrition, better export readiness, and stronger national competitiveness. Our story began with oil and peanut butter, but our mission became much larger: transforming the groundnut sector in Senegal by improving the quality, resilience, and commercial value of the crop at its origin.
