From Processing Ambition to Seed-Led Transformation

SavanaNut entered the Senegalese market with a clear downstream ambition: to develop high-quality groundnut products such as oil and peanut butter for consumers and value-added markets. That vision remains part of our long-term outlook, but our early engagement with the sector revealed a deeper truth: stronger processing begins with stronger seed.

As we studied the groundnut value chain, the challenge became clear. Many farmers continue to rely on recycled, low-vigor seed, which can lead to weak germination, inconsistent yields, lower oil content, smaller kernels, and unstable supply for processors. This seed-quality gap affects the entire value chain — from farm productivity to oil extraction, peanut butter production, food-grade groundnuts, and export-oriented processing.

This insight shaped SavanaNut’s strategic positioning. Rather than beginning at the end of the value chain, SavanaNut is building from the source. Through SEN SEED, a project of SavanaNut, the company is developing a certified seed-first platform designed to strengthen Senegal’s groundnut economy from the ground up.

This seed-led approach gives SavanaNut a strong and differentiated position in the market. By focusing on certified seed production, applied R&D, quality control, traceability, climate-sensitive storage, and value-chain partnerships, SavanaNut is addressing one of the most important structural bottlenecks in Senegal’s groundnut sector.

Our story began with the ambition to create better groundnut products. Today, that ambition has grown into a broader mission: to build the foundation for better seed, stronger farmers, more reliable processing, higher-value products, and a more competitive Senegalese groundnut economy.
