SEN-SEED: Certified Groundnut Seed for a Stronger Value Chain
SavanaNut is focused on strengthening Senegal’s groundnut sector through the multiplication, production, and commercialization of certified groundnut seed tailored to local agro-climatic conditions. Its product portfolio prioritizes the traits most critical to farmers and processors alike, including strong germination, drought and heat resilience, disease resistance, stable yields, high oil content, and consistent kernel quality. A core differentiator is SavanaNut’s research-driven seed development platform, which combines ongoing ISRA research with technical partnerships to continuously improve released groundnut varieties and ensure they remain relevant to the realities of Senegalese agriculture, including climate stress, irregular rainfall, and increasing disease pressure.
The company operates an integrated seed platform that combines certified seed multiplication, laboratory quality control, batch traceability, climate-sensitive storage, controlled processing, and applied varietal improvement to improve reliability across the value chain. Through demonstration plots and regional performance trials, SavanaNut will validate seed performance under real farming conditions, build farmer trust, and encourage wider adoption of certified seed as a productivity tool. In addition, SavanaNut’s production model incorporates sesame as a complementary rotation crop to support soil health, diversify farmer income, and strengthen the long-term sustainability and resilience of agricultural production systems in Senegal.
